At the end of 2014 Chelle and I looked back at our goals to see what they were and if we accomplished them. Not knowing the answer to this was our first mistake! 🙂
Surprisingly, we had accomplished several of them and then there were some we had completely forgotten about or we hadn’t kept track so couldn’t really answer if we accomplished them or not.
But, I heard this on Criminal Minds…
Scars show us where we’ve been but they don’t have to dictate where we’re going.
This year we decided to make a few changes to our approach of the new year.
First, we want to know what our goals are all year long! Not just at the beginning when we write them or at the end when we look back. We are printing our plan out for the year and posting it by our desks.
Second, we want to break down big, year-long goals into smaller, 30 day goals. To do that we are going to focus on a different area of our life each month and set specific goals around that topic. We are even going to post the goals and give updates and specifics on our progress (successes and failures!). Hopefully this will inspire you. We’d love for you to post in the comments or email us your progress, too.
Third, we are planning to interview expert guests and plan our shows around our topic each month.
For example, in January our topic is FOOD and eating healthy. Both of us have a desire to eat whole foods, consistently plan a menu, and save money at the grocery store.
My specific goal for January is to plan a real food menu for the whole month AND track my grocery spending. I want to know what I ate at the end of each week so I’ll need to write down what I actually ate and compare it to what I planned to eat.
We’ve already interviewed Tiffany from Don’t Waste the Crumbs blog for our first show. She is a real food blogger and just launched Frugal Real Food Meal Plans. For the next week you can purchase a subscription to her menu plan at a reduced rate. I purchased mine today and thus completed my first goal – to plan a real food menu – for the month of January!! Who said I had to write the actual plan? 🙂
Here are the monthly topics for 2015.
January – Eating Healthy
February – Loving Intentionally (spouse, kids and others)
March – Exercise
April – Organizing (Stories of real life people whose lives changed because they organized their homes)
May – Photos and Photo Organizing
June – Blessing Others
July – Pick a Project
August – Organizing Your Important Documents
September – Fashion (clean out the closet, outfit inspirations)
October – 31 Days: Blogging challenge for us (topic to be determined). Choose something to do every day for 31 days.
November – Organize for the holidays
December – ?? 🙂
Won’t you join us to accomplish your own goals around a more intentional year, one month at a time?
