January. 31 days. Chelle’s home office organized. Is it possible? Join us on this 31 day organizing journey!! You can do anything for 31 days right?
Keep up with the entire series here.
Day 14 – Assignment: Decide. Pick another pile to go through and decide what you will keep and where it will live. We picked the CD electronics pile next.
When you start in on a new pile you need to sort it into categories again. We had created an electronics pile (several cords, CDs, camera, other). Today we are going through the CDs. Chelle sorted them by video, pictures, music, and other.
Then she went through each pile trashing what she didn’t want and putting the music CDs outside the door in the elsewhere pile because they belong in another location. Now she just had two piles she wanted to keep in the office, the video CDs and picture CDs.
Next step: Contain.
We discussed how she wanted to store the video and picture CDs. She had this brown wicker basket that looked like a good size for CD’s (pictured). She put her video CDs in it. She didn’t have a matching basket so we dug around and found a white one that would fit on the shelf next to it. We put the picture CDs in it, labeled it and put it next to the brown one.
Chelle cannot wait to go shopping for cute baskets to replace these. Because we waited until we knew what she needed and where the permanent home would be we now know exactly what size to buy!
Lesson of the day:
Wait until you are to this step to buy containers. Use temporary ones that you have (like shoe boxes) first to test it out. Then, you will know exactly what you need. Write the measurements on a shopping list.
Read the following warning first (an excerpt from our soon-to-be-released eBook):
“WARNING: Shopping in the cute container aisle can cause severe distraction from current project. Do not operate shopping carts without a list and specific measurements. Clutter Interrupted is not responsible for excessive and unnecessary fabric covered boxes that may appear at checkout if those precautions are not followed.”
Looking good! Tracy has given me a few assignments. I am looking forward to shopping for containers. I do tend to get distracted so I will be sure to bring my specific list with measurements. More on my shopping trips later.
