January. 31 days. Chelle’s home office organized. Is it possible? Join us on this 31 day organizing journey!! You can do anything for 31 days right?
Keep up with the entire series here.
Day 9 – Assignment: Go through the paper pile and file what you are keeping.
We know some of you may still be sorting. Great job! Keep going. Be sure to schedule this each day on your calendar or the project will never get done.
We finished sorting yesterday. The next step after EMPTY and NAME PILES is DECIDE. Go back through each pile and decide what you are keeping and what you are donating or trashing. Remember, less is best. The less you have the easier it is to maintain. Be productive in your office. End the distraction of clutter. You can be done with feeling weighed down and discouraged. Refuse to waste your space because it is filled up with junk!
Most people I work with have a LOT more paper. Chelle is very good at going through paper. I don’t even have to walk her through it. I just throw her a pile and she’s on it. Next thing I know she is done! She also has a file system that has current files. She told me the files need to be cleaned out but for now we will save that project for a future date.
The photo above may not illustrate how to file but it is how I avoid filing. (Nothing says comfort like curling up next to a filing cabinet and snuggling under an empty file folder.)
When I awakened from my slumber and wiped the drool from my face, I tried to go through the piles and file quickly, keeping in mind good advice from Tracy…
- Tracy’s 3HOW?s For Processing Paper (this article explains in more detail) I especially like her first How which is, How can I get rid of this paper?
- remember most information can be found on the Internet
- less paper, less filing, less clutter, less stress
- use broad categories to name files
I really like my file cabinet. It looks like a piece of furniture, it can be accessed while sitting and it has legal size hanging folders. I think we bought it at an office supply store. Not too expensive. Fun for my husband to put together. Isn’t assembling furniture a joy? He usually has some names he likes to call the designers and the assembly instructions writers, none of which I am going to repeat.
I also have a shredder for some of the papers. Shredding papers is kind of therapeutic, wouldn’t you say?
Well that about does it for our 20 minutes in day 9. I got through the papers, had a refreshing nap and I think I may have a title for my new hit country song called, “When I Awakened From My Slumber and Wiped the Drool From My Face.” Catchy.
Hope your project is coming along. Keep at it!
