Today, November 3rd, is known as National Housewives Day. No, I’m not pulling your leg. It’s true.
Granted, our view of housewives may be a tad skewed since the airing of reality shows like The Real Housewives of Orange County, or The Real Housewives of Atlanta, etc. Somehow, and ironically so, these so-called housewives are not at all a picture of reality.
So, in honor of National Housewives Day and in support of all you real deal housewives, homemakers, domestic goddesses, family managers, and/or domestic engineers out there, I salute you!
I’ve been where you are for a lot of years. It takes work, heart, soul, effort, discipline, motivation, energy, vision, patience, endurance, creativity, blood, sweat, and tears to do what you do day in and day out. Many countless (and thankless) hours go into doing what you do day in and day out. Bravo!
C.S. Lewis once said, “The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only – and that is to support the ultimate career.” Even though it may not feel like it, each of you do have the ultimate career. But you also have the hardest career, the most exhausting career, and yet the most rewarding career. All hail the housewife!
Listen to the perspective of Jani Ortlund: “I believe that a godly home is a foretaste of heaven. Our homes, imperfect as they are, must be a haven from the chaos outside. They should be a reflection of our eternal home, where troubled souls find peace, weary hearts find rest, hungry bodies find refreshment, lonely pilgrims find communion, and wounded spirits find compassion.”
Today…this week…this month, when the days get long and your patience runs thin, when the house is a mess and your kids are driving you insane, breathe deep. Take a moment to reestablish why you chose this role. Revisit your commitment to your home, your family, yourself, and to the God who has given you the grace to do what you do day in and day out. Strive to make your home a godly, peaceful, refreshing, and compassionate one.
Enjoy your day, ladies! All hail the housewife!
