Make this easy chocolate dessert when you are feeling patriotic. It’s a great alternative to the traditional flag over white sheet cake version you may have tried. You can also make a few simple changes and create the perfect sweet for Valentine’s Day!
American Flag Easy Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake Recipe
- 4 pkg. (8 oz. each) Cream Cheese, softened
- 8 squares semi sweet baking chocolate, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tubs (8 oz.) Cool Whip Topping
- 1 pkg (14 oz.) Oreo Cookies, crushed for crust
- 6 T melted butter
- 1 bottle Smucker’s Magic Shell Chocolate Topping
- Fresh strawberries hulled and sliced in half, cooled
- Blueberries, cooled
Stir together crushed Oreos and melted butter. Press in a 9×13 dish. Refrigerate while mixing the following ingredients.
Mix cream cheese, melted chocolate, and sugar with electric mixer until well blended. Gently stir in 2 tubs (16 oz.) Cool Whip until mixed well.
Remove refrigerated Oreo cookie crust. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over the crust. Top with remaining 8 oz Cool Whip, smoothing it out.
Create an American flag on the top layer of Cool Whip by using the blueberries for the stars and halved strawberries for the red stripes. Press gently into the Cool Whip layer. (Be sure your strawberries and blueberries are slightly cooled.)
I like to serve this with an extra bowl of the sliced strawberries and blueberries mixed with a little sugar for those who want to add more fruit on their servings.
Optional: Lightly drizzle the Magic Shell Topping over the entire dessert. (Be careful. The spout on the bottle is wide and the topping comes out quickly!! I have poured it into a spoon and drizzled from that for better control.) Some of you might not want to add this over your flag creation. If you prefer, you can serve the Magic Shell bottle on the side and let your guests add the topping over their individual servings. (DO NOT REFRIGERATE the Magic Shell.) It hardens over the top and creates a chocolate covered strawberry/blueberry effect. Delicious!
I have also served this chocolaty dessert on Valentine’s Day. I cut the recipe in half and used a large heart shaped dish I bought at Target (I think). For this holiday, I like strawberries and raspberries on top with a drizzle of Magic Shell.
