“When we buy stuff we don’t just buy the stuff.”
Peter Walsh expounds on this during our interview.
Peter explained that when we buy a product we are not only buying the physical product but we are also investing in a promise.
Think of exercise equipment. We purchase the product AND we invest in the promise that the equipment will give us the life that we want – fit, healthy, thinner, happier, consistent, etc.
I (Tracy) want a Vitamix. I will purchase the physical product but I am also purchasing the promise that it will make my life easier. I will be healthier. I will be an excellent cook creating all the recipes and creations that are possible with a Vitamix. I will eat a green smoothie every morning. I will be filled with nutrients and vitamins like never before! Wow! I want to run out and buy one right now!
We are really investing in the promise that the product will make us the people we want to become.
Maybe your home is littered with all these promises? Often they are disappointments. Unfulfilled promises. Bread makers, juicers, dusty treadmills, skinny jeans, makeup, Christmas dishes, a new nail polish color, new shoes, gadgets, etc. Are you still unhappy, unfulfilled, overwhelmed by all your stuff, and not living the life you want?
“The life you want will never come from the stuff you buy! NEVER! We are taught that if you just buy the right stuff you will acquire the life you want. TOTAL CRAP!”
Stop buying stuff. Look around your home. What do you see? Pick something that you purchased and ask yourself, “What promise did I invest in when I purchased this product?”
Before you buy something else, pause, and ask, “What is the promise I am buying? Will it get me closer to the life I want to live?”
