Happy 2014! On our show New Year’s Traditions and Goals we talk traditions and then we talk goals. We mentioned a few of our 2014 goals and a little about how we are going to reach them…setting deadlines, accountability appointments, working together, and our 31 Days to an Organized Office challenge.
- CHELLE’S OFFICE IN 31 DAYS!
Often there are events in our lives that cause our homes, or parts of them, to become overwhelming and disorganized. For Chelle in was during her daughter’s high school graduation in May of 2013 when she was going through all of her photos and memorabilia to create photo albums and a slide show; preparing to host a graduation party at her home; and getting ready for out-of-town guests. Right in the middle of it all her computer crashed and she spent several days getting it up and going to retrieve her photos and projects. The office became the dumping ground and has been frustrating and overwhelming ever since not only to her but her husband, too.
Chelle’s goal for 2014 is to organize the office. What better way to get that task done than to have a challenge and make it public? We planned out the task in 31 small increments. During the month of January we will be posting daily with our progress. Please join us!!! Pick out a room or area in your home and follow Tracy’s daily tasks. Begin 2014 getting organized with us!
- DATING OUR HUSBANDS
All marriages need the investment of TIME. We want to focus on our marriages in 2014. What better way to spend time together than to go on a date! In Tracy’s home, with 4 kids and constant activities, going out is often moved down on the priority list. When there is an available night the temptation to just curl up on the couch rather than go get ready and head out on a date often wins out.
How do you accomplish a goal?? PLAN it. We thought a date once a month was a reasonable goal. Then we found this awesome site called The Dating Divas. There focus is to strengthen marriages one date at a time! They have the BEST printables and the very day that we looked they had this 12 Daytz of Christmas – One Year of Creative Dating. This year’s printable is only $2.00!! It has a date with a little rhyme for every month of the year! Thanks, Dating Divas!!
- ORGANIZING PICTURES
Chelle has a big goal and a lot of little project goals around organizing her photos. We are planning to attack this goal AFTER we finish the office. One thing at a time! There are a lot of pictures in her office because the closet that is attached to the office stores all the pictures.
As we organize the office we are finding projects that Chelle wants to do. We are planning to put each separate project in a small bins with a label (ie. Sydney’s graduation memorabilia, Chele’s brother’s award, Grandma’s video, etc). Chelle will later assign dates to complete each project.
- WORKING OUT
Can you talk about goals in the new year and omit some sort of eating-healthy-working-out goal?! Tracy reached a big goal in 2013 on her “Get Healthy” Journey. We’ll continue to focus on getting leafy greens and veggies by trying to eat a salad for lunch every day.
Do you ever resist setting a goal because you’ve set many goals in the past and failed? That has been the trend for the last 18 years of Tracy’s life when it comes to working consistently over the long term. Listen to Tracy share here.
Chelle mentioned a few ideas and that sparked some excitement, though, so we are looking into our options and will let you know. One is going in together to have a personal trainer come and get us started. We would have the trainer come back once every few weeks to keep us on track and serve as our accountability. The other option is a new workout studio that just opened close by. It is girls only and they offer classes: boot camp, pilates, yoga, weight lifting, etc. What have you found that works best for your workout goals?
- 4 TIPS FOR SETTING GOALS
Here are four important things to remember when setting goals.
- Set a S.M.A.R.T goal – Be sure your goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. Here is a template you can download to help you evaluate your goals.
- Set a deadline – Our organized office deadline is January 31, 2014. Our husband dating goal has a monthly deadline.
- Break it down and get it on your calendar – We’ve broken down organizing the office into small, daily assignments. Then we assigned times to work on each of them. I (Tracy) have January’s date night entered in my calendar and a reminder in my calendar to schedule February’s date.
- Set an accountability appointment – Get the accountability appointment on your calendar. Don’t just tell a friend to ask you how it’s going. Make it an actual appointment.
