Tracy and I have enjoyed writing our 31 Days of Top 10 Lists for The Nester’s Write 31 Days Challenge. Hundreds of bloggers have participated. It has been so interesting to read about others’ topics. Check out any of those writers and their series here.
Today is our last day in this series. We set and achieved our goal! Which is great because I don’t like goals much, as evidenced in my Budget Friendly Friday post, Week 4 – It’s A Goal, But Don’t Tell Me That.
It’s time to wrap it up. We are going to end our 31 Days Challenge with Our Top 10 Takeaways From The Write 31 Days Challenge. I will bet other bloggers have a similar title today. 🙂
10. This Commitment required some sacrifice
It’s true with most goals. There is a level of giving up what I want to do when I want to do it. Getting a Top 10 List up everyday was hard.
9. Tracy says, “I’m glad it’s over!”
I will say, “Ditto” to that. It is a feeling of accomplishment but we’re ready to be done!
8. Setting goals with a friend helps you succeed
We had the benefit of working together toward our goal. That is a good lesson to remember in any goal setting. Another person brings accountability and can help share the load. Accountability is huge when setting organizing goals as well. It was certainly true for me during our 31 Days to An Organized Office series. It’s part of our Triple Threat to help you reach a goal. It worked for us this time!
7. Expect struggles when setting out for a goal
Our struggle came in the form of our Kansas City Royals baseball team making it to post season in October!! This was a fantastic hurdle to reaching our goal. There were many extra-inning, late-night, nail-biters for us as fans. This definitely had an impact on completing our posts on time! We made it all the way to Game 7 of the World Series. Lost 3-2. Heartbreaking but what a fun month of baseball!!
Overcoming the inevitable hiccup in the plan toward a goal is important. Push through. Make adjustments. We are glad we did.
6. The new Kansas City IKEA is cool
Day 29 was the Top 10 IKEA Finds Under $50 list. Tracy and I experienced our city’s new IKEA store for the first time. There are a lot of items under $50 if you’re willing to put a little effort into assembling what you purchase.
5. The crock pot is a life saver
I love my crock pot. October has been a busy month all around for me. It feels so good to have a hot, nutritious meal ready for my family when I have been too busy to be in the kitchen much during the day. My go-to, family favorite is Black Bean Chicken. No measuring required.
- Chicken breasts
- Can of black beans
- Chili powder
- Garlic powder
- Shredded Colby Jack cheese
- Sour cream (optional)
Gather ingredients and crock pot. Lay chicken in bottom of pot. Sprinkle with garlic and chili powder. Dump enough salsa to cover the chicken. Drain beans and dump beans on top of salsa. Cook on low for 7-8 hours. Add shredded cheese. Cook on low another hour.
This recipe freezes well. I made a lot. I made multiple layers of all the ingredients so the beans and salsa would be throughout the dish.
Serve over rice. We like a side of sour cream too. Yum.
The presentation might not be lovely because the chicken is falling apart it’s so tender. Who cares, right? Dinner is served!
4. Areas in my home need attention
My master closet needs some love now. I have been busy with this added challenge this month. It’s time to dig in and put things away. Fortunately, it won’t take me too long because I have organized it recently. It’s all about the maintenance part. Ugh. Do you have this problem when you do a project? Other areas get neglected? I do.
3. I have now have great ideas for Christmas presents
IKEA, my Life’s Milestones post, Favorite Family Games, Meaningful Books We’ve Read are all some of the Top 10 posts we have created. Lots of ideas for people on my Christmas list. You might find some things for your list too!
2. We’re looking for our next challenge
We have some ideas. We can’t tell you yet but here’s a hint: a bed comforter from 1996.
