We like to close our shows by asking our guests to cut through the clutter of information and give us their “one thing” – one simple thing that our listeners could do that would make a big impact on their lives.
While talking to Julie Morgenstern, author and time management expert, we wanted to know what her “one thing” was. We were very excited when we heard it! It sounded FUN! Listen to the interview and more of her time management tips here.
Name the one thing that you wish you had more time for.
What is it? Watching a movie? Running? Surfing the internet? Playing with your kids? Dating your spouse? Reading? Still don’t know? What is one thing that is missing from you life? Sleep? Time with friends? Writing?
Pick the quantity of time that would be satisfying.
No, it cannot be 30 hours a week of surfing the internet! Try 3 hours per week.
Put it in your schedule.
Assign a time in your schedule for this task. Here is the key:
Be consistent. Do the task at the same time every day or every week.
Let’s say you choose 30 minutes per day 5 days per week to exercise. In your calendar block off the 7-7:30 AM time slot every Monday – Friday. Maybe you chose to go on a date with your spouse every week. Write it on your calendar every Friday night from 6-9:00 PM.
Doing this one thing will fuel your energy and brain power and satisfy you thus making you more efficient and more productive.
Try it and you will understand.
