What is the answer to avoid the 4:00 PM witching (or bewitching) hour? You know when you realize you haven’t thought about dinner yet, the kids are having melt downs, its time to pick up the toys and the laundry is waiting to be folded. Or, you are at the office and are thinking through the refrigerator contents only to realize you are missing one ingredient or more for every dinner option you can think of. That means ordering out or having to stop by the store on the way home.
The answer? MENU PLAN!
Ci Radio interviewed Laura Wittmann, aka Org Junkie, and found she is the ultimate menu planner and has been menu planning every. single. week for SIX YEARS!!
In her Menu Plan Monday posts she shares something fun and personal, gives her recipe highlight from the week before and then gives her menu for the upcoming week including links to the recipes. The amazing part is that people link up to the post with their own menu plans. Last week there were 137 linked menus.
We asked Laura to give us one tip for someone who is just starting to menu plan (or getting back to menu planning after backsliding). Her advice? Recipe selection. Stay real. Don’t try to become Chef of the Year. Pick recipes that are YOU. If you don’t take the time to saute mushrooms, julienne carrots and cook long grain rice for 60 minutes then don’t choose a recipe that requires that. Here’s Laura’s top 10 list for selecting new recipes.
