We have been talking about organizing your photos around here a lot. We’ve interviewed Lisa Kurtz, a photo organizing expert, and had to split the interview into TWO shows #158 and #159. Plus, I (Tracy) have started organizing my digital photos and am updating weekly on my progress.
So what better time to interview the founders of the newly launched LiveOn, a platform for storing and sharing digital memories!
What is LiveOn?
LiveOn is a platform for storing and sharing digital memories and personal messages, now and in the future.
Who can join?
LiveOn is open to anyone, worldwide, at LiveOn.com.
How do you join?
Join LiveOn by visiting www.LiveOn.com. On the landing page, simply enter a user name, email address and password. That is all that is required to create an account.
Does it cost?
LiveOn is free to join. Users can mark Milestones on their Timeline; post unlimited digital Memories; create a Circle of select users – family and friends – and communicate with them on the site, all at no cost. For less than the price of greeting card ($1.99 ea.); users can create digital Time Capsules that can be programmed for release at a later time and date…next week, next month, next year and even well into the future.
What are some of the features available with LiveOn?
LiveOn is a place where you can store all of those photos from scrap books, shoe boxes and multiple mobile devices into one consolidated, safe, permanent location.
On an intuitive and easily navigated Timeline, users can store all forms of digital assets, including pictures; video; music; and text. Further, users can create videos directly to LiveOn via their computer’s webcam and can also include their own voice narrating other digital assets (their photos for example) stored on the site. In other words, you can leave messages, in your own voice, for generations to come.
Music beds are provided on the site to enhance pictorial storage. User tagging, on-site communication, comments, notifications, and broad personal preferences are many of the features that the current platform supports.
The site also interacts with other social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. A user, for example can store a memory on their LiveOn account for permanent and easily accessible safe keeping, but can also post it on Facebook for immediate sharing.
LiveOn gives users the ability to open and manage sub-accounts. In other words, grown children who want to start capturing their living Baby Boomer parents’ pictures, memories, and stories now, can create an account just for their parents and upload those digital assets for them. Many of these Boomers have shoe boxes, old cassette videos and dated media that need a permanent home. By opening a sub-account and helping with the transfer of analog memories to digital media, the perishable items now have a home forever.
On the other end of the generational spectrum, parents can create a sub-account that enables them to start populating a newborn’s timeline, managing it for them while they grow; then transfer the account to their grown child 21 years later.
What is a time-capsule? How do you use it?
A Time Capsule is a customized Memory that a user creates and programs to be released to a loved one at a time and date in the future.
For example, new parents might want to create a Time Capsule that captures their sentiments, pictures, current events, and other personal memories on the day they welcome a new baby. A Time Capsule can capture all of their select memories and then be programmed to be delivered the day their new infant welcomes his or her first born decades later.
But Time Capsules may be more immediate, too. A wife may want to compile birthday wishes to be released next month for her husband’s significant milestone birthday. In short, it’s a private, personal and permanent remembrance that one can deliver to a select individual in the future.
What are circles?
A LiveOn Circle is a user’s select group of family and friends who have access to that user’s Timeline and Memories.
Only active LiveOn users can join a user’s Circle, and only by invitation. When a user accepts that invitation access to their Timeline and Memories reciprocates. A user can remove someone from their Circle at any time.
What makes LiveOn different from other photo storage websites?
- LiveOn is more than a photo storage website as it not only provides a permanent repository, and file management system for photos, but also for video and verbal narration to accompany those photos.
- Its intuitive, user-friendly Timeline makes it easy to manage such digital assets and because it is cloud-based, friends and family can enjoy these collected memories at any time and any place in their world, by merely logging into their LiveOn account.
- Any user can be tagged in photo and memory creation, too. This provides easy cross-referencing among users, photos and subjects included in a user’s Circle.
- Its exclusive Time Capsule capability – the ability to communicate with the future – separates it from any other photo storage website or social media network.
Are my photos secure? Who can see my photos?
LiveOn uses certified secured technology, similar to that used in high-tech medical and legal platforms. Its redundant data storage facilities and encrypted user accounts provide the highest level of internet security available today.
As such, only those invited to join a user’s Circle can ever see their photographs or other stored memories.
Is there a limit to how many photos and memories I can keep on the site? How long will my memories be on my account?
Photo and memory storage is free and unlimited.
LiveOn’s brand promise is that a user’s memories and photos will survive them in death. LiveOn is a leader in answering the questions surrounding our digital afterlife.
What happens to my timeline/account if I die?
After you die, your LIveOn account, well, lives on. Anyone who was invited to join your circle will have access to view your account, Timeline, Memories and conversations recorded on the site. Time Capsules can only be viewed by those to whom you sent them.
Do you have an app for mobile uploads, etc?
LiveOn apps can be downloaded for iOs (LiveOn App in the iTunes store); and Droid (LiveOn at Google Play).
**LiveOn partners with ScanCafe for converting analog items – photos, video tapes, etc. Interested users should use the code LiveOn20 when sending their pictures to ScanCafe for conversion to digital formats.
Press Release: Kearney-based LiveOn® Now Open
Communication with the future and personal digital memory storage featured in new technology.
Kearney, MO – Digital Legacy, LLC, a Kearney-based technology company, has launched LiveOn®, a platform that enables users to share their personal memories, now and in the future.
LiveOn is the product of Kearney’s Laura Steward, the firm’s CEO. “The LiveOn platform harnesses today’s technological advancements in a way that can help you preserve and connect with friends and loved ones like never before possible,” Steward says. An idea she fostered from extensive travel demands, “our digital Time Capsules give you the ability to capture a moment or message now, and deliver it to a friend or loved one at a time of your choosing… weeks, months or even decades in the future,” she adds.
“Additionally, the LiveOn Timeline provides a single, organized space for those important pictures, videos, and digital moments that may be spread amongst multiple devices – mobile phones, iPads, desktops, or digital cameras. What in past years might have been printed, kept in shoe boxes or photo albums, or stored on CDs, can now be kept safe, permanent and accessible on LiveOn,” she says.
LiveOn’s Timeline and Memory sharing is free to users, with only a nominal charge for its digital Time Capsules.
Users can share what they’ve saved with members of their LiveOn Circle or even their Facebook friends. Notifications, invitations and privacy options are all controlled by each user’s unique preferences.
LiveOn was the darling of the Austin, TX, tech and entertainment mega-festival, South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2012, highlighted by being named a finalist for achievements in (interactive) technology.
Digital Legacy, LLC, is located in Kearney, MO. It develops family-focused digital properties and applications designed to enhance and strengthen multi-generational ties.
