We started our conversation with Peter Walsh asking him this question: Through all your experiences working with people, what have you learned about the relationship between people and their stuff?
“People don’t understand the nature of their stuff.“
“People don’t realize that STUFF has power!”
“People feel that if they just gather more stuff around them that somehow they will be able to create the lives they want.”
“They fill their house with stuff but they still don’t have the lives they want.”
“They look around and feel overwhelmed by all the stuff that has so much power and they realize their stuff owns them and they don’t own it.”
“The stuff we own affects how we feel, how we think, how we interact with people.”
“The single biggest thing you need people to understand to organize their stuff, to deal with the stuff is…if you focus on the stuff you will never get organized. NEVER.”
“To get organized the place to start is not with the stuff. It is with asking this question.”
What about you –
Does your stuff have power over you?
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the stuff around you?
Are you investing in the product or the promise?
Then, we closed our show asking Peter this question: “What is ONE thing that you would recommend for someone who wants to live a decluttered life to either embrace or avoid?
His answer…a very encouraging one…
