When you are beginning to organize start to train your mind to think “one space.”
Where do pencils go? Decide on ONE space where all pencils will go. They don’t need to go in 4 different kitchen drawers and your office and your mud room and the living room end table drawer. Think ONE space. Define this space. Label it. Begin to put every pencil you find in this ONE space and only this space. Tell everyone in the family.
Where do you keep baking dishes? Decide on ONE space where all baking pans will go. I call this space the baking cabinet. I put all pans used for baking – 9×13 (glass and metal with lids), loaf pans, round cake pans, pie pans, 8X8 square pans, bundt pans, spring form pans, etc, all in one cabinet.
Where would you go in your home to find a tea light candle? All candles should go in ONE space.
Where would you go in your pantry to find tea? Hot cocoa? Drink mixes? Define one shelf as the beverage shelf, clear it off, label it and place all beverages on this shelf.
Even books. Could all books be stored in one location? On one book shelf?
Paper. Have one place in an office cabinet for paper. Store all loose leaf, printer, notebook, spirals, scrapbook, graph and scrap paper in this ONE location. Need paper? You’ll know just where to find it!!
Are you getting the idea?
Train your mind to think ONE SPACE so you know what you have and you know just where to find it!
