As you go through your home organizing and purging do you ever wonder, “Should I trash this or donate it?”
Maybe you even feel bad donating it because you think it is trash. Isn’t it rude to “dump” something you don’t want on someone or someplace else?
We thought it was such a common feeling and a great question that we dedicated a whole show to answering it!
Tamara Morris, Director of Marketing at Goodwill of Western Missouri & Eastern Kansas, joined us for this conversation and gave us great information that everyone NEEDS to know. Listen to the show To Donate Or Not To Donate: That Is The Question to learn more.
Did you know that Goodwill recycled 9000 tons of “stuff” last year?
They WANT that old shirt that has a stain, your computer cords and unused cell phone, the TV that isn’t smart, shoes that don’t fit or are out of style, furniture and more. They WANT to keep those things from filling the landfills! The best part is…you don’t have to feel bad giving these unwanted items to them! From the donation door of your local goodwill, to the processing center in the back, out to the floor in the store or on to several recycling programs it all benefits Goodwill and it’s mission.
Goodwill works to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.
They do this through employment specialists, interview training, counseling on interview techniques and tips, bus passes to get to interviews, etc. They have training which can include computer classes.
Read their BLOG to learn more. This is an impressive blog! They have inspiring success stories from people who have benefited from their programs. Professional Organizer and founder of Clutter Diet, Lorie Marrero, writes a regular post entitled Declutter and Donate! Lorie has great organizing videos on YouTube and one of my favorite things about her videos – besides the great information – is the little pop noise. She’ll sometimes include that she got the shirt she is wearing at GOODWILL!!!
